Según la leyenda, cumplidos 130 años después del la creación del quinto Sol, los aztecas salieron de Chicomóstoc --lugar de las Siete Cuevas--, de donde partieron junto a los xochimilca, los chalca, los cuitlahuaca, los de Tacuba, Coyohuacan, Azcapotzalco y Culhuacan. Más concretamente, Aztlan --lugar de las Garzas--, localizado posiblemente en el occidente de México, fue de donde partieron, uniéndose a las tribus anteriores en Culhuacan, lugar donde recibieron por dios a Huitzilopochtli (Colibrí Hechicero), que tenía la valiosa habilidad de hablar para darles buenos consejos. Iniciaron su peregrinaje (en un año "Ce Técpatl") desde principios del siglo XII de la Era Cristiana, en busca de la Tierra prometida por su dios tutelar: una zona pantanosa en la cual estuviera un nopal sobre una roca y sobre él una águila devorando una serpiente.
The legend sed.... in the 130 years after the creation of the fitfth sun, the aztecs came from Chicomóstoc (place of the seven caves) in wich the parted along with the Xochimilca, the Chalca, the Cuitlahuaca, the Tacuba, the Coyohuacan, Azcapolzalco and Culhuacan. They where headed to "Aztlán" (the place of the seagals), located posibly in the southwest area of México, so they parted, all the tribes joyned in Culhuacan, where they recieved there god Huitzilopochtli (wizard bird) whom had the abillity to talk and give them wise advise. They started there journey in the "Ce Técpatl" acording to the cristina era "1200's. In search of the promesed land: "A humid area where an eagle was going to be on top of a cactus eating a serpant".
